This certificate is designed to equip you to lead a multi-subject, growth-capable, lay counseling ministry in your church. Our desire is to see churches care for their members and reach their communities through the ministry of counseling. This certificate is built on four key convictions: the necessity of the gospel, the centrality of the local church, the primacy of Scripture, and a balanced view of sin and suffering. While this certificate is designed for the ministry of counseling in the church, there is no licensure connected to this program.

Seven courses provide a well-rounded training for an effective counseling ministry
Counseling Parents and Children
This course will examine biblical teaching regarding the family, including roles of parents and children. This course will also examine conflict resolution. Finally, this course will examine various special topics relating to counseling parents and children.
Counseling Individuals with Problematic Emotions
A study of the most common problematic emotions: depression, anxiety, grief, anger, and trauma. The focus is on developing an understanding of these emotions as biological, moral, relational, and spiritual phenomena and then learning biblical intervention strategies. A biblical perspective on suffering and pain is embedded throughout.
Counseling Individuals with Addiction Problems
This course will examine the etiology (origin) of addictions, effects on the family, its dynamics, interventions and treatment. This course will examine behavioral addictions such as sexual addiction and addictive level life struggles such as eating disorders.
Individual Skills and Crisis Intervention
This course will examine the individual professional and personality counseling skills and their importance, as well as case planning. This course will also examine crisis and trauma counseling, including treatment evaluation and planning as well as special topics within crisis counseling.
Biblical Counseling in the Local Church
Key concepts related to the theological foundations and logistical opportunities for developing a counseling ministry is the local church.
Marriage and Pre-Marital Counseling
A biblical model of marriage is developed, which serves as a foundation for understanding and counseling marriage problems and providing premarital counseling.
Group Counseling Skills
A biblical model of peer-based group counseling is developed, which serves as a foundation for understanding and counseling in a group context.
