Summary

This course is designed to introduce the student to the doctrine, history, and practice of Christian worship with special emphasis on worship in the local church.

 

Objectives

  • Develop an understanding of significant principles and practices of worship in the Bible, from the Old Testament to the New Testament.
  • Recognize biblical elements of worship and priorities for corporate worship.
  • Consider aspects of a theology of worship for the local church.
  • Understand the nature of worship ministry in the local church, including planning and leading corporate worship.

Dr. Joshua Waggener

Dr. Joshua A. Waggener serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Christian Worship at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and The College at Southeastern, where he has taught since 2007. He teaches classes on the history and theology of Christian worship and coordinates programs in worship ministry and leadership at Southeastern. He has served three churches as a worship leader and has been involved in church music his entire life.
